Relationships
Relationships play a significant role in our lives. They can bring happiness and support, but also pain and heartache. If you find yourself struggling in your relationships, please know that you are not alone. My therapy services are here to provide support as you navigate the complexities of interpersonal connections.
My approach to relationship work is to identify the relational patterns that were likely learned during the developmental years that are contributing to the distress. These maladaptive patterns emerge in close relationships where boundaries are challenged the most and emotional reactivity or withdrawal occur almost seamlessly. Interrupting these patterns starts with awareness and is advanced by the ability to settle the nervous system which allows brain areas responsible for skillfulness to stay active.
Additionally, I use Stan Tatkin’s methods for developing secure functioning. This entails making and keeping agreements. avoiding unilateral decision making, resolving disagreements quickly and without defensiveness, and creating a shared vision and purpose to increase trust and reduce distress within the relationship.
